T BBC2 8.00 - 8.30 pm Bill Oddie’s How to Watch Wildlife - 6/8 Hampstead Heath - There are the usual moments of near heart stopping beauty on this week’s nature trail. A kingfisher scoops a fish from a pond; a woodpecker picks berries of a rowan tree; a pair of great crested grebes give each other little presents - including a romantic plastic gag. These delights and more are found not in some remote wilderness but on Hampstead Heath in North London, Bill Oddie’s local patch. As Oddie points out, the joy of knowing somewhere well is seeing how the seasons pass. So that’s what he shows us, starting with a July day and moving through the seasons. It looks every bit as heavenly as the wilder places in previous editions. And one time-lapse shot of a pathway dissolving from summer to autumn is, as Oddie might say, “lovely, lovely, lovely”.
